Laura Shipler Chico is a social worker and trainer specializing in cross-cultural communication, peace building, and trauma recovery. She has provided counseling in the United States for refugees, immigrants, victims of human trafficking, and survivors of politically-motivated torture and domestic violence. She has lived and worked extensively in Southeast Asia and the African Great Lakes region. In Thailand, she worked with exiled and refugee women from Burma. In Rwanda, she helped bring together survivors and perpetrators of the genocide for intensive dialogue and joint community recovery projects. She received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. She currently lives in London, England with her husband and son.
