Enforcing Mauritania’s Anti-Slavery Legislation: The Continued Failure of the Justice System to Prevent, Protect and Punish

This report will examine current legal approaches to eradicating slavery within the Mauritanian criminal justice system, specifically the efficacy of a law passed in 2007 which aimed to eradicate slavery and the recent approval in September 2015 of a new anti-slavery law which aims to strengthen the previous provisions against slavery.
