This publication, produced by the Global Initiative against Transnational Crime, explores illicit human smuggling practices in post-Qaddafi Libya that can ultimately lead to exploitation and human trafficking. It mainly discusses the culture of human smuggling that has emerged in recent years. “The Human Conveyor Belt” also focuses on human rights abuses present on the migrant route through Libya such as bonded labor, indentured servitude, slavery, and kidnapping. Ultimately, the publication provides recommendations to local communities and state actors in order to end harmful smuggling and human trafficking practices in Libya.
